My love for animals is the core root of many aspects of myself, the things I take interest in, and what pieces of media I choose to engage with. It all started a long time ago when I was a child. I was obsessed with animals as a kid and expressed this love through drawing. Many of those drawings are still hanging in my mom's office back home. Why I was obsessed with animals is beyond me. Since this love started when I was very young, it is really difficult for me several years later to pinpoint a reason. I guess it is a core aspect of who I am. It still impacts me today as I am very eager to go to zoos and aquariums to see animals in person.
As mentioned prior, drawing is how I expressed my love for animals. It naturally became something I did as a hobby growing up, doodling in my notebooks and on occasions drawing digitally on my old school laptop that had touchscreen and a stylus. It was only until sophomore year of high school did I decide to pursure a career in art (entering a ranked art lobby). While I might be screwing myself in the long run, college is a significantly more pleasant experience since so many projects can be twisted to fit my interests. I will showcase a couple of my drawings sorted by what hyperfixations I played into for that piece. Even though I still love animals, that love spread to specific fixations:
My film final where I compiled video and audio clips from the internet to create what is effectively a shitpost that goes into the life of a minimum wage worker and even a little American healthcare (a little funny considering recent events). This took quite a while to put together. I distinctly remember sitting in my chair for three hours straight working on a specific segment and probably touching up some other areas.
The above comic is what I submitted as my final for my college comics class. This was an open assignment as the only requirement is that it had to be at least eight pages long. Although there was a limit of twelve, some people went over that. I decided to base this off the music video How to Eat Life and Fight Song both by the Japanese music artist Eve. Mainly, the environment with a lone human guy in a city full of demons. The basic summary is an guy who is just trying to get by while surrounded by demons gets into a conflict with one thanks to a minor inconvience caused by a stray dragon doge.
