Okay, I know this a bit of a stretch, but he literally has Spider in the name.
Also these screenshots were taken when I was playing Spider-Man Remastered when it came to Steam last year.
Spider-Man is my favorite superhero and is one of the most popular and recognizable faces of all superheroes. Once again, I'm not entirely sure how I became a massive Spider-Man. But I know it is much more recent, occuring sometime in middle school before the eighth grade. To be fair, Spider-Man became popular for a reason. I guess since I was about to go into high school and Spider-Man is typically shown to be on the younger side of superheroes, I found him to be relatable. Also I probably saw a shit ton of Spider-Man memes during middle school thanks to some of my friends being into comics.
This was an old Spider-Man persona character concept I created earlier this year. It is important to note that around this time I was playng Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Since it has risen (hehe) to become one of my favorite video games, I took a lot of design elements from the game's protagonist Raiden. This is most prominent in the armor on the arms and the chest. The pose in the bottom right also takes massive influence as I used an screenshot from the game as reference. I especially had fun playing around with the transpareny and settings on the electricity surrounding one of the arms. I also took aspects from other Spider-people with a futuristic armor vibe to their suits, specifically Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Man Zero (the one from Fortnite). I note here that this is an old design as I want to take another jab at it, this time leaning away from the futuristic armor look and going back to a more classic Spider-Man suit.
My final for my art history class last year where we had to include seven artists covered during the lectures and how they tie into our practice. The artists are connected on a literal web to my "Spider-Sona" with the reasons I chose those artists in between (more detail above). I will note a small update to the above design visible here on the mask, putting in extra detail when Agent Spider was revealed in Invincible. Funnily enough, the character was voiced by Josh Keaton who already voiced a character called Black Spider in DC's Young Justice and the actual Spider-Man in Spectacular Spider-Man. However, the connections to most of the artists are kinda loose as I just chose them since they were tangentially related to things I'm interested in to meet the quota. I had trouble choosing seven artists as most of my inspiration comes from more recent sources (within the last two or three decades). Ironically, one of the artists I could definitively say was in fact played into my practice is one of the first artists covered: Katsushika Hokusai. The style of his woodblock prints is something I aspire to capture in my art, strong line art and vibrant colors (it also helps that I own some shirts with his most famous print on them). I guess I can also include Mies van der Rohe as his design philosophy of "less is more" is something I have in my practice. Although, I feel like I just happened to come to that conclusion while browsing art on the internet and it just so happens that he was covered in class. Artists and important aspects are connected with red webbing while other structural webbing is just left white.
Old fan art I made of Spider-Man in high school. I used Sketchbook since it came with my old school laptop. I got a pretty decent school laptop since I went to private school and they gave us a choice between a Mac and a PC. I chose the PC since my parents were more familiar with it and could help me with any techinical issues. The windows had touchscreen and a stylus so it made it easier for me to draw.
